A German actress who was the daughter of influential Bertolt Brecht, Barbara began acting on the stage in her father’s Berliner Ensemble in 1949. Brecht-Schell made sporadic appearances in East German films but most notably took over administration of her family’s estate and notoriously fiercely protected her father’s legacy.
