An American writer and director whose work was known for its complex female characters and giving a voice to the underrepresented, Wells’ two directorial efforts were Guinevere (1999) and Under the Tuscan Sun (2003). Her first produced screenplay was The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996) and her other credits included The Hate U Give (2018).
