A British actor of stage and screen who had his first professional engagement in Alec Guinness’ Hamlet in the West End in 1951. A regular face on British television, Dawes appeared in a variety of guest roles, from Upstairs, Downstairs (1973) and Brideshead Revisited (1981) to Fawlty Towers (1979), Yes Minister (1981), Rumpole of the Bailey (1978 and 1991) and The Avengers (1964 and 1967).
