An Iranian director who emerged as one of his country’s leading filmmakers during the post-revolution new wave, Kiarostami would eventually be considered one of the best in the world. His films included and Close-Up (1990), the Palme d’Or-winning Taste of Cherry (1997), and Certified Copy (2010).
