For the past two months BAFTA Archive and Heritage has been mining the back catalogue of moving image material from our collection to provide content for 100 Moments, a collaborative project with BAFTA Communications team. The 100 Moments project will use both still and moving image material from the Archive to showcase the history of the Film Awards across the decades in the run up to the 2015 ceremony.

We have been viewing, selecting and digitising highlights from Film Awards’ ceremonies dating back to the 1950s. The project has given us the opportunity to continue the process of preserving some of the more vulnerable moving image material we have, at present kept on unstable formats, as well as making it available to the general public. And, as with much of the Archive’s work, the project serves to enrich and promote BAFTA’s brand identity and increase the general public’s awareness of our history.

The archival research undertaken has had additional benefits as we have uncovered material suitable for a planned Archive project in the lead up to BAFTA’s 70th Anniversary Celebrations in 2017.

In the meantime, the 100 Moments project went live on 31st October and runs until the 7 February 2015 across all of BAFTA social media platforms using the hashtag #100BAFTAdays.
