BAFTA has today announced Alan Cumming as the host of the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises, to be held on Sunday 11 May at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and broadcast that evening on BBC One and iPlayer.
As a multi-award-winning actor, writer, producer and TV host, Alan Cumming is renowned for his celebrated career in the arts, spanning television, film, and theatre. From his Tony and Olivier award winning performance in Cabaret, to his memorable performance in The Good Wife – for which he won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor as well as an Emmy for his work as an executive producer – Cumming is recognised for his versatility both on-screen and behind the scenes. More recently, his signature charm has captivated TV audiences worldwide as host of The Traitors US, for which he has won two Emmys and two Critics Choice awards.
Today’s announcement kick starts the countdown to the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises, Britain’s biggest night in TV, recognising the programmes and creative talent that captured the hearts and minds of BAFTA’s television voting membership. This Thursday (12pm GMT) the nominations will be unveiled for all 49 competitive categories across the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises and BAFTA Television Craft Awards.
This year’s ceremony will celebrate the very best of television broadcast in 2024, with the exception of new categories marking children’s television programmes – which have an extended eligibility window – as previously confirmed last September here.
Emma Baehr, Executive Director of Awards & Content at BAFTA, said: “We’re delighted that Alan Cumming will be hosting this year’s BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises, he will definitely bring a playful sense of mischief and fun to the ceremony, so audiences should expect the unexpected at Britain’s biggest celebration of TV on Sunday 11 May. We’ll be revealing the nominations for the 2025 BAFTA Television Craft Awards and BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises on Thursday 27 March. The sheer quality, innovation, and breadth of talent in British television in front of and behind the camera is second to none, and we look forward to honouring and celebrating these talented people at our upcoming awards ceremonies.”
Last year’s BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises delivered an average audience of 2.7 million on BBC One and iPlayer, whilst social media coverage of the night received over 7 million views.
The Awards will be available on BritBox in all of its regions: the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the Nordics. It will also be available in Australia on Foxtel and 24 countries across Africa and the Middle East on AlThaqafeya and MBC Channels, as well as 13 countries across Asia on Rewind Networks. Further territories to be confirmed.
P&O Cruises is the headline sponsor for the BAFTA Television Awards for the third year running. The ‘P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award’ is the only award voted for by members of the public, honouring the impact of television and its power to bring the nation together. This year’s shortlist was announced on Wednesday 12 March and can be found here.
Voting for the six nominees is now open and will close on 25 April. Members of the public can vote for their P&O Cruises Memorable Moment online via http://www.bafta.org/moment. Voters will have the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win one of 25 pairs of ceremony tickets to the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises on Sunday 11 May 2025.
