A former actor, Holland’s lasting legacy and greatest achievement as a writer is the hit soap EastEnders which he co-created with Julia Smith in 1985. The pair had previously worked together on Z Cars (1970-73), Angels (1979-83) and The District Nurse (1984), teaming up again to create Eldorado (1992-93).
