A British actress best known for her role as Annie Sugden on Emmerdale Farm (1972-1992, 2009), Mercier was the matriarch of the soap’s original focal family. Her career began on the stage and many of her other screen appearances were in adaptations of Rix Theatre productions including Brian Rix Presents… (1960-1970) and Six With Rix (1972).
