John Cole

Journalist and Political Editor

A Northern Irish journalist, best known for his role as the BBC’s Political Editor between 1981-1992. Cole began his career in journalism aged 17 at the Belfast Telegraph, later working for the Guardian and Observer and becoming Deputy Editor of both. He was honoured by BAFTA with the Richard Dimbelby Award (1993), and was also immortalized by a Spitting Image puppet.
