Herbert Wise

An Austrian director who arrived in Britain in 1939 as a Jewish refugee, Wise trained at Granada TV but did much of his work at the BBC. He directed Skokie (1981), Pope John Paull II (1984), and received BAFTA nominations for his work on I, Claudius (1976), The Norman Conquests (1977) and Breaking the Code (1996).
