Franco Zeffirelli

An Italian director who helmed famously lavish productions across film, theatre and the opera, Zeffirelli was best known on the big screen for his Shakespeare adaptations including The Taming of the Shrew (1967), Romeo and Juliet (1968), Otello (1986) and Hamlet (1990). He received five BAFTA nominations, winning for his production design on La Traviata (1982).
