Joining Granada Television as a researcher in 1957, Plowright rose through the ranks over the next 30 years to become Chairman. During his time there he worked as an editor for World in Action and executive-produced the acclaimed drama series Brideshead Revisited (1981) and The Jewel in the Crown (1984).
