An American actress, who worked across television, film and theatre. Frances Sternhagen was nominated three times for an Emmy, twice for her guest appearances in Cheers (1986-1993) and once for her supporting role in Sex and the City (2000-2002). Other notable TV series were ER (1997-2003) and The Closer (2006-2012), while her film credits included Fedora (1978), Starting Over (1979), Outland (1981), Misery (1990), The Mist (2007) and Julie & Julia (2009). She won two Tony Awards for her stage work.
