BAFTA Cymru and the Pinewood Studios Group have joined forces in a strategic partnership to support Wales’ television and film industry.
The two organisations are collaborating on a year-round calendar of events designed to provide networking and development opportunities to those working within Wales’ broadcast and production sectors. The initiative follows the Pinewood Studios Group’s recent expansion into Wales through the launch of Pinewood Studio Wales.
The first event, hosted jointly by BAFTA Cymru and Pinewood, will be the 2014 British Academy Cymru Awards’ Nominees Party, which will be held in Cardiff on Thursday 9 October at Jolyon’s at No.10. The event will offer nominees for the 23rd annual British Academy Cymru Awards the chance to celebrate their success alongside well-known faces from television and film as well as key representatives from Wales’ creative and media industries.
BAFTA Cymru’s Chair, Ian Jones, will speak at the Nominees Party ahead of his first British Academy Cymru Awards in the role. Ian, who is Chief Executive of S4C and whose many television industry achievements include helping launch S4C in 1982, was elected to the position of Chair in January this year.
Ian Jones said: “Right throughout Wales’ television production sector and the creative industries as a whole there is a creative buzz and a determination to work collaboratively to bring about further success.
“The Nominees Party will not only provide an opportunity to warmly congratulate all those who have been recognised with BAFTA Cymru nominations this year, but also bring together some of the finest talent Wales has to offer to discuss our work and focus on the future.
“It is a pleasure to work with the Pinewood Studios Group on this series of events, which we very much hope will result in further benefits for our creative industries and the audiences we serve.”
A Pinewood Studios Group representative said: “Pinewood has for many years enjoyed a long standing relationship with BAFTA. We are excited that the relationship is being expanded to include BAFTA Cymru. We wish all the nominees well for what is going to be an exciting awards ceremony, showcasing the talent and expertise of those working in the vibrant Welsh film and television sector.”
BAFTA Cymru’s collaboration with Pinewood is just one of a series of new partnerships formed ahead of this year’s British Academy Cymru Awards. The growing success of the ceremony and its Nominees Party has attracted a number of other new sponsors including Champagne Taittinger, Jolyons at No. 10 and Wow Event Hire. OB facilities company NEP Cymru returns this year as the Awards’ Primary Event Sponsor with post-production and facilities company Gorilla as Key Event Sponsor. Nominees attending the event will also receive a special gift bag containing gifts from Welsh brands including Penderyn Whisky, Corgi Hosiery and Cardiff Blues and a number of big British and international brands such as John Lewis, Charles Worthington and L’Occitane en Provence.
The 2014 British Academy Cymru Awards will see awards presented across 28 programme, craft and performance categories to honour excellence in broadcasting and production within film and television in Wales. The ceremony will be presented by radio and television presenter Jason Mohammad and will feature special guest performances and celebrity award presenters.
