BAFTA Cymru and BAFTA Scotland to host Guru Live Online: Spring 21

29 March 2021

BAFTA Cymru and BAFTA Scotland have launched Guru Live Online: Spring 21, a virtual festival featuring industry experts from the Scottish and Welsh film, games and television industries.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Scotland and Wales (BAFTA Scotland, BAFTA Cymru) will host their first ever online edition of BAFTA’s flagship festival for aspiring creatives, Guru Live.  The branches of BAFTA will deliver a jointly curated programme which will run entirely online between 4 – 7 May 2021. All sessions are open to the public and are free to attend.

Guru Live is an extension of BAFTA Guru (, BAFTA’s online resource that shares advice and inspiration from the best creative minds working in film, games and television, and will feature industry-specific masterclasses, Q&As and panel discussions and cross-sector skills-based sessions led by professionals including BAFTA winners and nominees.

As part of the joint programme, an exciting highlight will include a Performance Masterclass with Scottish and Welsh cast members from Channel 4’s highly acclaimed It’s A Sin. David Carlyle (Gloria) and Callum Scott Howells (Colin) will speak to Edith Bowman about their respective experiences of being cast in one of the most critically acclaimed and important drama series in recent years.

In addition, there will also be a Masterclass on Horror filmmaking as well as a panel featuring Scottish and Welsh industry leaders leading the way in Games.

There will also be discussion panels covering guides on starting out in the film, games and television industries in both Scotland and Wales, offering practical advice on ground-up industry opportunities. Finally, there will be a chance to join a Networking session which examines the ways you can meet and collaborate with peers and industry leaders after a shift in practices due to the impact of COVID-19.

More sessions and speakers will be announced soon.
