Fatima Wardy

Fatima Wardy is a Sudanese-British filmmaker pursuing an MFA in Film Production at The University of Texas at Austin. Working across both fiction and non-fiction mediums, her work delves into experiences of displacement and belonging among the Black diaspora.

Receiving the BAFTA/Pigott Scholarship has given me the financial support necessary to push my filmmaking practice. I am only two months into the academic year and it has already given me license to be more ambitious, take bigger risks and make bolder choices as a director. I am extremely grateful to be a part of the BAFTA community and look forward to the day when I can pay it forward to future emerging filmmakers.

She is currently in production on "Hair Care", a hybrid live-action/animation short about a young woman who must journey through a fantastical Ivory Coast in order to track down her hair braider after she mysteriously disappeared.
