A British director, who was presented with BAFTA’s Special Award, known as the Alan Clarke Award, in 1996, for his contribution to British television. Among Roy Battersby’s most memorable television works were three plays for Play for Today – namely ‘Better Than the Movies’ (1972), ‘The Operation’ (1973) and ‘Leeds – United!’ (1974) – Couples (1975-1976), The Home Front (1983), King of the Ghetto (1986), Between the Lines (1992-1994), Cracker (1995) and A Touch of Frost (1994-2006). He also directed the films The Body (1970), Winter Flight (1984) and Red Mercury (2005).
