A Canadian director and producer, who won a BAFTA for In the Heat of the Night (1967). Norman Jewison was nominated in the Best Film category as well, having already picked up a previous nomination for The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming (1966). He was also nominated for seven Oscars, split over the Best Picture and Best Director categories, for these two films as well as Fiddler on the Roof (1971), A Soldier’s Story (1985) and Moonstruck (1987). He was presented with a special award by the Academy in 1999. Other notable films included The Thrill of It All (1963), The Cincinnati Kid (1965), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Rollerball (1975) and Only You (1994).
