An American actor, who is perhaps best known for two award-winning performances, earning an Emmy for groundbreaking US television mini-series Roots (1977) and an Oscar for the film An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). Other notable film credits included The Landlord (1970), Skin Game (1971), The Deep (1977), Jaws 3-D (1983), Enemy Mine (1985), the Iron Eagle series (1986-1995) and The Color Purple (2023). Louis Gossett Jr’s television credits included The Young Rebels (1970-1971), The Lazarus Syndrome (1979), Sadat (1983), Extant (2014-2015) and Watchmen (2019). He also had 14 executive producer credits.
