BAFTA/Steve ButlerInside Games took place on 12 March 2014, directly preceding the British Academy Games Awards that same evening. The event gave visitors the chance to get hands-on with a wide range of highly anticipated games from the world’s biggest studios, even those as yet unavailable in the UK.
We also curated a series of live talks from leading game developers including Matt Brunner, David Braben, Mark Ogilvie and Charles Cecil. Speakers divulged insight into their latest game development exploits as well as sharing tips on the craft of game development itself.
BAFTA/Steve ButlerThe 'Inside Games Arcade', gave guests the chance to play some of the best independent games available and provided a fascinating insight into how far the work of independent game development has come in recent years.
Later that evening, as the Inside Games showcase shut down and Sonic left the building, the doors to the British Academy Games Awards ceremony were opened and the UK's biggest celebration of games industry talent commenced.

Matt Brunner Airtight Games
Matt Brunner and Doug Van Horne of Airtight Games started proceedings with the first developer talk of the day. With due to be released this summer, the developers offered an insight into the characters and the thought-provoking narrative that gamers were also able to preview as part of the Inside Games Showcase. |

David Braben Frontier
David Braben, founder of the games series, demonstrated the latest installment of his open world series, . The new world builds on the elements that fans of the series have come to love with the option to build and create your very own unique gaming experience. Choose to play by the rules or become a rebel, it’s your choice, but whatever you decide prepare to lose yourself in the next evolution of this vast galaxy. |

Mark Ogilvie Jagex
Ogilvie offered three key pieces of advice. First, to listen out for new ideas and inspiration, as you never know when they might come to you. He suggested having a pen and paper handy - you’re much more likely to remember an idea if you write it down. Second, give yourself time to be creative in your life. Ogilvie advised learning something you’ve never done before, and to give yourself the space to do that in. And lastly, Ogilvie discussed the importance of being playful, suggesting that "Play is an essential part of life, it's a way of feeding the soul." |

Charles Cecil
Charles Cecil, CEO at Revolution Games delivered a fascinating talk covering a brief history of video games and the key events that changed the course of game development. He spoke in detail about the successes of his game & shared insights into how to make a success of your game, from writing & development to business and marketing. |
