Pauline Campbell - Head of Property

As BAFTA’s Head of Property, Pauline has been working on the project since the start six years ago, bringing with her a wealth of experience from working on the redevelopments of the Cambridge and Palace Theatres in London.

The principle part of my role is to deliver the redevelopment project on behalf of BAFTA and to ensure that all the internal departments and external stakeholders who will have future use of the building are brought on the journey. I am responsible for ensuring that the building functions operationally so that we can maximise its potential and deliver the project on time.

I cannot describe the feeling when the project got the green light last year. This redevelopment will safeguard the future of the charity and we had been planning and saving for the redevelopment for many years. There’s so much more that BAFTA wants to do to support the creative future of our industries and it was becoming more and more challenging to keep 195 Piccadilly fit for purpose.

The biggest change for BAFTA will be the addition of the Creative and Future Galleries, our new multi-purpose space for learning and new talent activity on the second floor. We have designed the Galleries to have four individual rooms with bi-folding doors that can become one large room accommodating 200 people. They will have the latest in state-of-the-art technology, and this floor will also house our beautiful, redeveloped 227-seat Princess Anne Theatre. This new space will provide an amazing opportunity for the Academy to increase the learning work we do, and to bring more people to BAFTA to see what we do first-hand.

I am also really excited about the addition of the 4th Floor and exposing and raising the Victorian rooflights. There were many times in the early days when achieving this amazing feat seemed unbelievably difficult. There were so many moving parts that had to come together not least planning permission, English Heritage buy-in, the structural restraints of the Grade 2-listed building and if we could actually raise the funds to do the work. I’m delighted that we are well on the way to this wonderful transformation.

My favourite film - is Coyote Ugly. I make no apologies for this. I come from the theatre world so anything that is song and dance fills me with joy, and of course the soundtrack is full of banging tunes.

My favourite TV - On TV I love British dramas, and I am enjoying watching Cobra with Robert Carlisle.

My favourite game – I’m really enjoying planning the beautiful puzzle game KAMI 2 on my phone.
