Jessica Dower and Timothy Wainwright - Structural Engineers

Jessica and Timothy are the chief structural engineers working on the project from Price & Myers, the award-winning structural and civil engineering practice.

What is the most interesting aspect of working on the BAFTA project?

Jessica: Learning about the history of the building and the many different alterations that have happened throughout the course of its life. This is becoming more and more interesting as the finishes are stripped back and the structure is gradually being exposed.

Is there something that only you, as engineers, know about the project?

Jessica: We know how it is possible to support an additional floor on top of a building that is over 120 years old.

Timothy: That the Princes Anne Theatre floor can support four double-decker buses!

What is an average day like in your job?

Jessica: Our job is varied and can include anything from design team & client meetings, design workshops, sketching, site visits (including many up into dusty BAFTA loft spaces), writing reports, specifications, emails, phone calls, etc.

Timothy: There’s also lots of tea and biscuits!

What is your favourite film, computer game and TV programme?

Timothy: The Goonies or Monty Python's Life of Brian, Minecraft and Blackadder.

Jessica: The TV show Stranger Things.
