Alex Tarrant - Project Manager

Alex is the project manager for Knight Harwood. He oversees a team of 10 staff including building services engineers, quantity surveyors, construction managers and project administrators. He makes sure everyone in the team are confident and able to perform their roles effectively and ensures all works are completed in line with the programme and in a safe manner. He is also the key person who gives hard hat tours for visitors.

Here are his thoughts on the project:

This project is unique for me. I have worked on projects with cinemas, conference rooms, kitchens, offices etc. throughout my career but never before under one roof. This, combined with the high-end finishes planned, will create a truly incredible building. I am very much looking forward to the Princess Anne Theatre being finished.

One of the most challenging parts of the building project so far has been the figuring out with the engineers how best to support the building while we are demolishing the interior. As we are temporarily taking the roof off the building to create a new 4th floor, we have had to design a way to secure the facades of the building so they won’t collapse inwards. To solve this we are supporting the whole building with temporary steel girders that run the height of the structure. A huge challenge!

I very much enjoying giving hard hat tours as I can share my passion for the project. I often get asked how I got into my job. I was lucky to get on the Knight Harwood graduate scheme straight out of university and now I have the pleasure of passing down my skills to the latest group of graduates, one of whom will be joining us on the 195 Piccadilly project in February.

His favourite films and television programmes are:

I enjoy sci-fi films such as Lost in Space and Avatar. Some my favourite TV programmes include Peaky Blinders, Jack Ryan and Lie to Me.
