A Japanese actor, Shinichi ‘Sonny’ Chiba was a global star long before his appearance in such US hits as Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill (2003 and 2004) and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006). He earned international fame in the 1970s with such beloved action films as The Street Fighter (1974), Doberman Cop and Golgo 13: Assignment Kowloon (both 1977), going on to earn more than 120 credits. Chiba was an accomplished martial artist, with black belts in multiple forms including Kyokushin karate, judo and kendo.
