Royce Ryton

15 September 1924 to 13 April 2009

Primarily active on stage, the flamboyant Ryton enjoyed his greatest success as a playwright with Crown Matrimonial, an acclaimed account of the 1936 abdication crisis precipitated by Edward VIII’s engagement to Wallis Simpson. The production was filmed in 1974, with Peter Barkworth as Edward and Greer Garson playing Queen Mary.
