Raymond Allen

Writer
15 March 1940 to 2 October 2022

A British writer, who created the classic sitcom Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em (1973-1978), featuring British comedy icon Frank Spencer, played by Michael Crawford. The misadventures of the accident-prone Frank and his long suffering wife, Betty (Michele Dotrice), would draw in huge audience figures in its day and earn five BAFTA nominations for its cast and producer, but Allen would struggle to reproduce its success elsewhere. He did write some sketches for All Cricket and Wellies (1986), The Little and Large Show (1987-1989) and a comedy show for children Fast Forward (1987).
