Hrishikesh Mukherjee

29 September 1922 to 26 August 2006

Beginning as an editor, Mukherjee's move to directing brought him huge success in the 70s with films such as Anand (1970) and Chupke, Chupke (1975). His trademark themes of modesty and family values were well received in his native India, particularly by the conservative middleclass whom his films would reflect.
