A British presenter and investigative journalist, who first found fame as a host on Blue Peter (1978-1980) before moving on to make hard-hitting documentaries under the moniker Max Stahl, to protect his identity. His shocking footage of a massacre in East Timor (now Timor-Leste) by Indonesian troops in 1991 was first broadcast on Channel 4 before being used in the documentary In Cold Blood: The Massacre of East Timor (1992), made with director Peter Gordon. Other documentaries he filmed included Death of a Priest (1981), The Front Line (1983), The Hashish Connection (1988) and John Pilger’s Death of a Nation: The Timor Conspiracy (1994).
