Award Nominee Masterclass: Philip John on Directing

Wednesday, 3 May 2017 - 6:00pm
Atrium, University of South Wales

A chance to hear from the BAFTA Cymru nominee, director Philip John whose recent credits include Downton Abbey and Outlander.

Born in Newport, South Wales, Philip is a multi award winning and multi BAFTA-nominated director and screenwriter. A graduate of Newport Film School, Philip wrote and directed two post-graduate award winning short films - the controversial and BAFTA nominated SUCKERFISH and the equally provocative black comedy SISTER LULU. Both films went on to win international festival prizes, including selection by NEW DIRECTIONS Y2K for the New York and Los Angeles BEST NEW UK DIRECTORS showcase.

Philip is now a freelance screenwriter director, and MD of his own production company, Orange River Ltd, balancing his professional career between his cinema development slate, and directing high profile network television.

Philip’s first feature film, MOON DOGS, won Best International First Feature at the Galway Fleadh 2016, as well as the Audience Award and Distributors Award at the Mannheim/Heidelberg International Film Festival 2016.

The event is part of the Ffresh Student Media Festival.  BAFTA Cymru members can gain a free pass to the festival's other events. Please contact Vicki in the office for more details.
