British Academy Television Craft Awards, London, UK - 28 Apr 2019

The Special Award – Emma Thomas

The role of script supervisor is an integral part of any television or film production, but it’s also a craft that is seldom recognised with awards. Emma Thomas is widely regarded as one of the best in her field and has made an incredible impact on British television and film across her 30-plus years in the business, not least for her mentoring of other women in the industry. At the British Academy Television Craft Awards, held on 28 April 2019, both her work and her craft were recognised with a Special Award. Words by Rachel Ward

Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards 2017, Show, Royal Festival Hall, London, UK - 14 May 2017

The Special Award – Nicola Shindler

With a catalogue of major shows to her name, producer Nicola Shindler is one of British television’s big hitters. Honesty and passion are themes that are explored regularly in her productions – from Queer as Folk and Clocking Off to Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley – but as a producer, she’s pragmatic to the needs of broadcasters, too. At the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, held on 12 May 2019, Shindler was presented with one of BAFTA’s highest honours, the Special Award. Words by Rich Matthews

Focus on... The Power of Television

Television is an art form that works on so many levels. It can stimulate us emotionally and intellectually; it can bring us together in celebration and in times of heartache. It can take us to wondrous places, both real and fictional. It can entertain and it can soothe. It can break down barriers and establish long-lasting friendships. Powerful stuff! Words by Rachel Ward
