It’s life-changing, it makes higher education a possibility for me for the first time

Scarlett developed an interest in screenwriting through the BFI Film Academy Screenwriting Residential and started to write and produce shorts, while continuing to participate in development schemes. They were a finalist in Shortflix 2019 where workshops with professional TV writers helped them realise that writing for TV was their ultimate ambition. They are currently in pre-production on multiple short films and are looking forward to taking their place at GCU.

Scarlett said: “When I received a place on my dream course, my excitement was tempered by the worry of how I could afford it, so to learn that I’d been awarded a BAFTA scholarship was simply incredible. It’s life-changing, it makes higher education a possibility for me for the first time, and I am so excited to be able to dedicate a year to honing my craft. That an organisation like BAFTA sees potential in me means so much.”
