Lisa Kenney | BAFTA Reuben Scholarship

Lisa Kenney | BAFTA Reuben Scholarship

Lisa is awarded the BAFTA Reuben Scholarship to support an MA in Animation at National Film and Television School. Lisa is mentored by Mark Baker.

After learning to animate on her mum's kitchen table in Blackpool, she has spent the last 10 years making short films, music videos, social media campaigns and YouTube series under the moniker; Designasaur. She has undertaken internships, hosted plasticine workshops and visited her old college to hold talks and teach teenagers about animation throughout that time — all while waiting tables and working office jobs to support herself.

I've had more knock-backs than I can count over the years, so for someone to finally open the door and give me the time of day is incredible... but the fact that the voice on the other side of that door is BAFTA? It's indescribable.

Lisa strives to unearth the commonalities in each of our stories, to discover what it is that connects us and to strengthen that connection through film. She wants to remind people of the things they've forgotten and hold a mirror up to her audience to let them know that they're seen.

Lisa said: "Being awarded a scholarship from BAFTA is the biggest thing that's ever happened to me. I had to read the email a good four or five times before I could believe that it was real! I've had more knock-backs than I can count over the years, so for someone to finally open the door and give me the time of day is incredible... but the fact that the voice on the other side of that door is BAFTA? It's indescribable. I'll be eternally grateful for this opportunity, and I'm going to make the most of every moment of it."
