Marlon Ochoa

SECOND YEAR

Marlon Ochoa is from Lawndale, California and he will be graduating from Leuzinger High School this May. Marlon is a Media Production student at the Multimedia Career Academy at school. He hasn’t decided what university he will be attending yet, but he plans on majoring in Kinesiology and Physical Therapy.

“For me to be selected for the program means that film will continue to influence my life beyond a screen. Outside of high school, I will be able to continue collaborating with other passionate film enthusiasts in my age group throughout Los Angeles.”

It is Marlon’s dream to one day combine his love for physical fitness and filmmaking. He believes that these two fields have an incredible power to change the way people view themselves, and can help to improve lives. This belief is why Marlon and his brother created Minority Productions, a production company that provides photo and video services in the effort of empowering and putting more minorities on screens

When Marlon isn’t studying for school or working on Minority Productions, he is also practicing for marching band, running in the LA Marathon, and working part time as a server.

“I was connected to the BAFTA x LAUSD internship, where I was introduced to other young filmmakers and saw the potential of how our stories could be changed. Because of that internship, I knew that I wanted to continue working with BAFTA LA and applying for the Vance Byrd Mentorship Program allowed me to do that. “

When it comes to filmmaking, Marlon is inspired by the works of Christopher Nolan. Marlon always walks aways from his films with a new perspective on life and the notion of reality. He is inspired by how Nolan utilizes all aspects of filmmaking to encourage this kind of thought.
