James Yocute

SECOND YEAR

James Yocute grew up in Granada Hills, California, and is currently attending California Lutheran University where he is studying Art and working part-time as a barista.

“I applied to the Vance Byrd Mentorship Program because I know that I need guidance to pursue my goals, and this opportunity is that guidance. I also believe that I have lots to learn, and I have a feeling that during the time that I spend in this program, I can educate myself more than the necessary knowledge I will need down the line.”

Growing up, it was James’ dream to create costumes and props for movies, a passion of his that has continued to grow. Nowadays you may find James at a local Comic Con wearing one of his custom-built costumes

Stan Winston is the person in the industry that James looks up to the most. James has been inspired by his iconic animatronics and makeup in Jurassic Park.

“I want to create costumes and makeup prosthetics for film and television. I've always wanted to do this because I truly believe that without costumes or makeup, you can't create the illusion in movies, it's not just about making costumes, it's about making something that can really draw the viewer's eye in.”
