María Herrera is an emerging filmmaker from Spain. She is a La Caixa fellowship recipient and is pursuing an MFA in Cinema Arts – Screenwriting & Directing- at CUNY. Maria is interested in questioning narrative paradigms and cinematic language in search of a new feminist cinema and TV. As a creator, her work explores the feminine universe and has a strong focus on the body, desire, violence and care.
 
Before coming to NYC, she worked at Avalon production company having participated in ten award-winning feature films and TV shows as production coordinator, development director, delegate producer and producer. She has worked with directors such as Carla Simón, Clara Roquet, Paula Ortiz, Marta Nieto, León Siminiani, among others. It's worth mentioning her participation as director of development in ALCARRÀS (Carla Simón) Golden Bear at Berlinale, premiered at the NYFF and selected by the Spanish Cinema Academy to represent Spain at the Oscars.
