Stella Corradi | Director

For Stella, a chipped tooth turned out to be the most fortuitous trip to the dentist of all time. Not only did she land her first runner job on A Late Quartet in New York, thanks to the dentist’s son being a film producer, but she also met her future husband during the production. Stella then successfully applied to be Sally Potter’s assistant and as well as learning enormous amounts from the director on Ginger and Rose, went on to work with her for many years on projects such as The Party and the upcoming Molly.

Stella is an all-rounder who enjoys being involved in everything from production to sound design, believing that no facet of a film should be overlooked by a director. She loved the experience of writing as well as directing her first short, Little Soldier, which was set in her home of Hackney and based around her own experiences. Her next project, Through the Gates, was BAFTA nominated and she was gobsmacked to get that recognition, let alone to become a Breakthrough Brit so soon after. Her other projects include Trigonometry for House/ BBC and upcoming feature length drama Sitting in Limbo for Left Bank/ BBC.

Stella is very aware of all the people who have helped and supported her filmmaking journey so far and would love to become a mentor herself. She hopes that by targeting class disparity by giving opportunities to young, working class women, the film industry will become an even more diverse and interesting place to work.
