Siqi Song | Animator

It was at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China where Siqi Song discovered animation and was drawn to the appeal of fine art and filmmaking. After graduating she moved to California to attend the California Institute of the Arts were she studied experimental animation. Siqi entered the animation industry as an intern at the award-winning animation studio LAIKA. Since her internship she has gone on to produce two stop-motion shorts including the award-winning short ‘Sister’ and ‘The Coin’.

Siqi’s work on the twelve episode animated mini series ‘All in a Day’s Work’ earned her the title of Breakthrough. The mini series shines a comedic spotlight on young entrepreneurs and small business owners. Siqi’s unique characters and mastery of stop motion animation make a light hearted, feel good body of work. Siqi is currently collaborating on her first full length animated feature and has several other projects in development.

Siqi first came to BAFTA's notice when her short film 'Sister' was shortlisted for the BAFTA Student Film Awards in 2018. She subsequently joined the Newcomers Program. Now, as a BAFTA Breakthrough, she looks forward to the many mentoring and networking opportunities the program provides to help advance her career as a director in animation.
