Melissa Adeyemo | Producer

I am  honored to have been accepted to BAFTA Breakthrough. I am excited to connect with other creatives in the BAFTA community, and I look forward to the mentorship aspect of BAFTA Breakthrough.

Melissa is a Nigerian American producer who dreamt of becoming a producer while at Columbia University after watching films that lacked depth and nuance of the African and diaspora experiences and realizing that she could directly change these images. She was the lead producer on her first feature film and BAFTA Breakthrough project Eyimofe, the award-winning Nigerian debut feature from Arie and Chuko Esiri.

The film premiered at the Berlinale Forum in 2020 and opened to critical acclaim upon its theatrical premiere last year under Janus Films, drawing positive reviews from Variety, Sight and Sound, and the NY Times, where it is a Critic's Pick. Eyimofe is the first Nigerian film to be included as part of the Criterion Collection, where Melissa is the first-ever African female producer to get her own standalone spotlight interview.
