Charlotte Hornsby | Cinematographer

I am honored to join this year’s BAFTA Breakthrough cohort. I believe strongly in close collaboration between camera, art and costume and am excited to receive mentorship from BAFTA’s international network of cinema artists.

When Charlotte was growing up, her family had a rule: if she and her sisters wanted to watch a movie, they had to make a movie. Shooting movies on the family camcorder soon became her favorite pursuit and by the time she reached high school, she was filming and editing music videos for the school’s morning news show. Charlotte’s work is rooted in her belief that the lighting and camerawork must always be attuned to the emotional truth of the moment.

Charlotte studied cinematography, editing and production design in college and upon graduating, bought a 5D Mark II and moved to New Orleans.  Her Breakthrough project is the feature film Master (2022) she shot for director Mariama Diallo. Master is a thriller about two women who are driven out of an Ivy League university by social and supernatural forces.
