(She/Her)

Amanda Kim is a Korean-American director/producer, born in New York City and raised in Tokyo. She directed her first feature-length documentary, Nam June Paik: Moon is the Oldest TV (2023), about the quixotic journey of Nam June Paik, one of the most famous Asian artists of the 20th century, who revolutionized the use of technology as an artistic canvas and prophesied both the fascist tendencies and intercultural understanding that would arise from the interconnected metaverse of today's world.

The film had its world premiere in the US Doc Competition at Sundance 2023, its US premiere as the opening night film at MoMA Doc Fortnight, and was released by Greenwich Entertainment across the US, where it was a NY Times Critic's Pick and Variety Critic's Pick. The film was picked up internationally by Dogwoof, has been traveling to festivals and released theatrically around the world, and was recently nominated as best documentary for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

She is excited about sharing multicultural stories, whether documentary or fiction, that explore underrepresented narratives and social issues through unconventional characters. She is extremely excited to be a part of the BAFTA Breakthrough community. Through BAFTA, she hopes to meet potential collaborators and mentors as she embarks on her next film and to find support and grow with her fellow Breakthrough cohorts while navigating the various challenges of the industry.
