Aaron Reid | Cinematographer

Aaron Reid | Cinematographer

Aaron loved watching Steven Spielberg films as a child, and enjoyed playing with his nan’s special collection of stills cameras from across the decades. Film seemed a more accessible medium than photography at that time, so Aaron went to study at the London Film School. During his training, he worked as a spark on film sets, and helped out with music promo videos before moving to work on big budget commercials.

Aaron is passionate about cinematography and enjoys working with like-minded people on set. He still gets a buzz from creating amazing images and can’t quite believe he is working in his dream job. He still loves photography too, and believes capturing stills is an important part of his journey as a cinematographer. One of Aaron’s career highlights so far is working on ITV series Stephen, about the investigation into Stephen Lawrence’s murder, a case that had a massive impact on Aaron as a teenager.

Having admired the cinematographers who have previously been part of Breakthrough UK, Aaron is still in shock at receiving the honour himself. He is glad to be able to represent black cinematographers at the highest level, and looks forward to opening up his career and meeting people from the wider industry. He describes himself as hungry and ambitious, and can’t wait to work on more scripts that inspire him, from drama series to the indie film classics of the future.
