John and Katie live and breathe games. So much so that guests were invited to compete in a round of virtual jousting at their Tintagel wedding! The couple, who co-founded their own games company, Triangular Pixels, met while working together on the potions brewing team of Harry Potter game Book of Spells.
Computer science graduate John started making video games in secondary school, and has always enjoyed the technical side of games. Katie, on the other hand, loved playing Dungeons and Dragons on the Amiga, but didn’t know how to make a career out of her hobby. She studied Physics and Space Research at university just to have the chance to do a programming module, and worked as a graphics artist at her spare time, before finally getting a job as a games designer.
The pair love exploring the untapped possibilities of virtual reality gaming and last year their spy game Unseen Diplomacy was nominated for a BAFTA. When they’re not working long hours, Katie and John like to spend their time kayaking and climbing near their home in Cornwall. They made a conscious decision to live away from the stresses of London and value the beauty of their surroundings, but they are keen to use the Breakthrough Brits scheme to establish more of a gaming community in their area.
