Charlie Covell | Writer/Actress

Charlie has been acting for 10 years and writing for three. As well as roles in Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, Misfits and Marcella, alongside fellow Breakthrough Brits alumnus Ray Panthaki, she wrote two episodes of Russell T Davies’ series Banana and played the protagonist in one of them.

As part of the Breakthrough Brits programme, BAFTA arranged for Charlie to meet her industry hero Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation, Inside Out) and the team behind BAFTA-nominated television series Transparent.

I think [Breakthrough Brits has] put me on people’s radar; having BAFTA associated with my name is a huge honour, and being part of the initiative allows me to knock on and open doors that would have been impossible beforehand. I think it’s an important initiative because it takes people who are relatively new and green in the industry and gives them a massive leg-up in terms of confidence and contacts. The opportunities are astounding; truly game-changing in terms of your career. It’s hands-down one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
