The Board of Directors determine the strategy and the direction for BAFTA Los Angeles, while it is our Committees and Staff who are tasked by the Board to deliver many of the programs and events within our overall mission.

BAFTA Los Angeles currently operates the following Committees and are comprised of members of our Board, Staff, and volunteers from our BAFTA Los Angeles Membership. It is the Committee Chair who selects the members for his or her Committee.

Committees and Mission Statements

Executive

Mission: To ensure that management of BAFTA Los Angeles is consistent with the Bylaws, Policies and strategic goals of the Academy and to maintain oversight of the various committees. The Committee is empowered to make decision between Board meetings, and to allocate financial resources not to exceed $5,000 in any given month. The Executive Committee consists of the Chair, Deputy Chair(s), Secretary and Treasurer of BAFTA Los Angeles, as elected by the Board of Directors, along with the Executive Director and Director of Operations.

Awards Season Tea Party

Committee Co-Chairs: Gary Dartnall & Julia Verdin

Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the event. To ensure a successful and profitable event that is unique, attractive and celebrates the very best of BAFTA and the creative Industry – particularly the contributions from the UK film community. To create opportunities that uses the event as a platform to promote BAFTA’s wider work and unique position in the industry.

Britannia

Committee Co-Chairs: Deborah Kolar & Bumble Ward

Mission: To deliver a creative, world-class televised Britannia Awards, the organization’s major fundraiser. To support the clear purpose and definition for the awards, promoting its uniqueness, value and integrity as BAFTA’s flagship Los Angeles event.

Community Outreach

Committee Co-Chairs: Nigel Daly and Katherine Haber

Mission: To utilize the talents of the BAFTA Membership to provide opportunities and programs for the Los Angeles community, using the art forms of the moving image to encourage a positive effect on the Los Angeles community through education programs and social enrichment activities.

Constitution

Committee Co-Chairs: Brian Walton and Beverley Ward (Secretary).

Mission: To maintain and keep current the Bylaws and Policies of BAFTA Los Angeles, and ensure adherence to the Bylaws and Policies. To monitor the implementation of Policy, advise where future Policy would benefit the Academy and monitor the implementation and compliance of all non-profit statutes.

Digital Media

Committee Chair: Phil Ashcroft

Mission: To advance BAFTA Los Angeles‘ resources, knowledge and opportunities relating to all technology and digital media matters that impact BAFTA members. To represent the Digital sector of the BAFTA Membership by securing eligible content for BAFTA Los Angeles program, including guest speakers for the Learning & Event program, eligible titles for the screening program, and subjects for the Heritage Archive interview series.

Election Oversight

Committee Co-Chairs: Brian Walton and Beverley Ward.

Mission: To oversee the Board of Directors Election including the accuracy of candidate statements, adherence to campaign policies, and ensuring a fair, transparent election process is followed.

Film

Committee Co-Chairs: Kieran Breen and Julia Verdin

Mission: To represent the Film sector of the BAFTA Membership by securing eligible content for BAFTA Los Angeles programs, including guest speakers for the Learning & Event program, eligible titles for the screening program, and subjects for the Heritage Archive interview series.

Finance

Committee Co-Chairs: Gary Dartnall & Paul Steinke (Treasurer)

Mission: To maintain oversight of the Academy’s finances. To develop and administer appropriate and successful financial plans and procedures to ensure the present and future financial health of the Academy.

Garden Party

Committee Co-Chairs: Bryony Foster & Katherine Haber

Mission: To deliver an entertaining. enjoyable and profitable Membership Garden Party that celebrates BAFTA’s role in the industry, and raises awareness amongst its membership of BAFTA’s wider programs and functions.

Member Services

Committee Chair: Brian Walton

Mission: To provide key benefits to BAFTA Los Angeles Membership by producing networking opportunities that create and encourage the exchange of professional and creative expertise between Member. Specific events also include the celebration event for the BAFTA Film Awards and the annual Holiday Party.

Membership

Committee Co-Chairs: Bryony Foster & James Knight

Mission: To review, evaluate and make recommendations to the Board of Directors on the eligibility of new applicants for membership in BAFTA Los Angeles. To engage in recruitment strategies for the procurement of new and appropriate BAFTA members.

Newcomers

Committee Chair: Sandro Monetti

Mission: To deliver a program that provides meaningful support to UK professionals who have recently relocated to Los Angeles to work in the entertainment industry, or continue their studies in their field of work. To review applications and make recommendations to the Board. To secure Mentoring and other appropriate opportunities that are of professional value to the participants.

Publicity & Marketing

Committee Co-Chairs: Kieran Breen and Vivian Mayer

Mission: To work with all committees and departments of BAFTA Los Angeles in raising the profile and branding of BAFTA Los Angeles, primarily to the US entertainment and media community.

Scholarships

Committee Chair: Gary Dartnall

Mission: To administer the BAFTA Los Angeles Scholarships Programs, including the review of applicants and to recommend scholarship recipients to the BAFTA Los Angeles Board.

Special Events

Committee Co-Chairs: Kara "KJ" Miller & Sandro Monetti

Mission: To deliver special events, approved by the Board, which serve the mission of BAFTA Los Angeles to support, promote and advance the art forms of the moving image. Events may include celebrations of classic films, fundraising initiatives, and collaborations with other industry and art organization, and other approved projects at the Board’s discretion.

Student Film Awards

Committee Co-Chairs: Katherine Haber and Paul Heller

Mission: To produce an award ceremony that celebrates the emerging talents from the student filmmaking body, with the winner receiving a genuine level of structured support by BAFTA Los Angeles during this crucial time in their career.

Television

Committee Chair: Rosalie Swedlin

Mission: To represent the TV sector of the BAFTA Membership by securing eligible content for BAFTA Los Angeles programs, including guest speakers for the Learning & Event program, eligible titles for the screening program, and subjects for the Heritage Archive interview series. To support, develop and promote focus on the television medium in order to further the goals and mission of the Academy.

TV Tea Party

Mission: To co-ordinate the planning, operation and production of the event, acknowledging the nominees and the contributions from the UK and the Commonwealth to the U.S. TV industry. To ensure a successful and profitable event that is unique, attractive and celebrates the very best of BAFTA and the creative TV Industry. To create opportunities that uses the event as a platform to promote BAFTA’s wider work and unique position in the industry.

Games

Committee Co-Chairs: Phil Ashcroft & James Knight

Mission: To advance the knowledge and understanding of the Games industry amongst the wider BAFTA Membership. To represent the Games sector of the BAFTA Membership by securing eligible content for BAFTA Los Angeles program, including guest speakers for the Learning & Event program, eligible titles for the event program, and subjects for the Heritage Archive interview series

Important: If you are a contacting a Committee to indicate your interest in serving, please include details of your background, areas of expertise, and specific examples of how your skills can benefit our organization. This will help our Co-Chairs to better evaluate the needs of the Committee.

Members will be selected to join a Committee based on the areas of expertise needed to fulfill the Committee's goals and mission. Therefore, while we appreciate all offers of interest, we will not be able to accommodate every request to join a Committee.
