BAFTA New York in partnership with The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF ) have announced the 2012 FOCUS ON UK FILM, an exciting lineup of new UK productions, featuring celebrated British talent from behind the camera and on the screen, to be featured at the 20th edition of the Hamptons International Film Festival, October 4-8, 2012. The program is presented in association with BBC AMERICA and The GREAT Britain campaign.

Renowned director and documentarian, Michael Apted, and producer, director and human rights activist, Trudie Styler, - both BAFTA members - co-host the FOCUS ON UK FILM strand that runs throughout the Festival. Emmy®-nominated Alan Cumming star of 2012 HIFF film Any Day Now and CBS’ The Good Wife, is slated to host the Festival’s Closing Night ceremony, the Golden Starfish Awards. Cumming, the multi-talented Scotsman, is also featured in “A Conversation With...”, one of the Festival’s signature programs.

The FOCUS ON UK FILM features new films across multiple genres. The program is highlighted by the World Premiere of Julian Jarrold’s The Girl, the story of the turbulent off-screen relationship between Alfred Hitchcock (Toby Jones) and Tippi Hedren (BAFTA Member Sienna Miller). Miller and Jones will attend the film’s Festival screening.

Additional narrative presentations in the FOCUS ON UK FILM include: Quartet, the directorial debut of BAFTA member and BAFTA Award and Academy Award®-winner Dustin Hoffman, written by Ronald Harwood, starring Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon, and Billy Connolly; Seven Psychopaths, Martin McDonagh’s twisted, comic tale of psychopaths for hire, starring Colin Farrell and Christopher Walken, and Shadow Dancer, a gripping thriller set in Belfast from director and BAFTA-winner James Marsh, starring Clive Owen.

A stellar group of UK documentaries includes 56 Up, the latest episode in Michael Apted’s classic documentary series, London: The Modern Babylon, Julien Temple’s documentary portrait of London as a city of transformation, immigration, conflict and hope, and Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, an EPIX Original Documentary, the thrilling and inspiring narrative behind the longest running film franchise in cinema history. It screens on October 5, Global James Bond Day in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise on the anniversary of Dr. No’s world premiere.

“The Hamptons International Film Festival is pleased to spotlight Great Britain at our 20th annual festival,” said Karen Arikian, Executive Director. “Showcasing world-class international cinema is at the core of the Festival’s mission. The UK and US have always had a special creative relationship and a rich, shared cinematic history. This is the first FOCUS ON UK FILM, and the beginning of long term partnership between BAFTA New York and HIFF.”

Harlene Freezer, Chairman BAFTA New York, commented: “BAFTA New York and HIFF are aligned in their commitment to the art forms of the moving image and to creative artists. This new collaboration will enable BAFTA New York and HIFF to build out potential opportunities that will benefit independent filmmakers on both sides of the pond, as well as our two organizations. We’re delighted that BBC AMERICA and The GREAT Britain campaign have joined with BAFTA New York to present FOCUS ON UK FILM for HIFF’s 20th anniversary.”

"I'm thrilled that British film will be specially showcased at this year’s Hamptons International Film Festival,” said British Consul-General Danny Lopez. “The Festival's 2012 FOCUS ON UK FILM features a stellar array of genres, ranging from dark comedy to gripping thriller to insightful documentary, and will highlight the UK film industry's scope, versatility, and dynamism."
