Planet Earth II - Winners' acceptance speech, Specialist Factual, Virgin TV British Academy Television Awards in 2017

14 May 2017

Winner's acceptance speech on behalf of Michael Gunton, Tom Hugh-Jones, Elizabeth White, and David Attenborough for Planet Earth II in the Specialist Factual category

SPEAKER 1:  Thank you, everyone.  To win this award -- hello up there.  To win this award to an incredibly special, large and dedicated team, so it is so fantastic to win best series because this is the one that really honours all their hard work.

Making this series not only took a lot of teamwork, it also took a lot of hard work and also a little bit of  luck.

SPEAKER 2:  And that luck -- oh, sorry.  That luck, Liz, was the person who put that extraordinary snake sequence back.

(Applause)

Justin, that amazing sequence of the dancing bears. And Freddy, that amazing sequence of the leopards in Mumbai.  But had the luck to get David Attenborough 2 miles above the  service of the planet without killing him, which would not be good for the CV.  It was the only day for two months when the sun shone, so it was the only day we could do it.  I think the gods were shining on us. So a lot of thanks to BBC One, to Worldwide and to an enormous team of 1,000 people round the world.

Thank you very much indeed.

SPEAKER 1:  Thank you.
