I Am Not A Witch, Winners' Acceptance Speech, Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, EE British Academy Film Awards in 2018

18 February 2018

Winners' acceptance speech by Rungano Nyoni and Emily Morgan for I Am Not A Witch in the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer category.

RUNGANO NYONI: We are not prepared. I just want to say thank you to BAFTA, the jury. It's a bit - really - unexpected. I know everyone says that, but really, it is.

And also who do I want to... my house, Gabriel. My mum, my dad and Travers for being the most supportive parents you could ever ask for. My little niece. I'm now pulling things from the air.

Who else? Oh, and the cast and the crew. Thank you. And all the people - actually, I always wanted to say this - all the people who said yes to me, who are BFI, Film4, Film Cymru. Without you guys' support, we wouldn't have been able to make this film. Also the people that said no, frankly, because it really spurred me on.

Thank you.

EMILY MORGAN: Rungano said most of it. But also our distributor, Curzon, and our sales agent, Kinology, and, yes, I would like to say thanks to all my incredibly supportive friends and family, who are always there for me, and everyone in the industry who has supported us along the way. You know who you are.

And the NFTS as well, a huge thanks.

And I guess, finally, Time's Up.
