Brooklyn - Winner acceptance speech, Outstanding British Film, EE British Academy Film Awards in 2016

14 February 2016

Winner acceptance speech by John Crowley, Finola Dwyer, Amanda Posey & Nick Hornby for Outstanding British Film

FINOLA DWYER:  Thank you, BAFTA.  First we have to thank you Colm Toibin, who trusted us with his really beautiful novel and brought to life Nick's masterful script and John's impeccable direction.

JOHN CROWLEY:  On behalf of the entire cast and crew here in London, in Dublin, in Montreal and of course in New York.  Thank you so much for honouring our film in this way, BAFTA.
One of the things this film is about is the kindness of strangers and as the film has made its way out into the world, the warmth of the response has been completely overwhelming.
Whatever tiny bit of this I can lay claim to, I would like to share with Fiona Weir, who not only furnished us with a marvellous cast, but she has to put up with me every day.  So happy Valentine's Day.  Thank you so much -- and Nick Hornby.

NICK HORNBY:  I'd like to thank particularly the two producers, one of whom is my wife and the other one feels like my wife a lot of the time, so that makes three, with given that one is my actual wife.
My job consists of doing a bit of the crosswords, sometimes going to the gym and then doing a bit of writing.  They spent five years putting this film together and their work is harder than any of ours.  I would like to thank them as well as the incredible Saoirse Ronan.
