Winner acceptance speech by Richard Linklater for Director

Winner acceptance speech by Ethan Hawke on behalf of Richard Linklater for Boyhood in the Director category

Ethan Hawke:  So I am not Richard Linklater but I have made eight films with him and even better than that he is my great friend and I know that there is…..there may be….. many people who are equal but there is no one who is in this room here, who loves cinema more than Richard Linklater and who loves the legacy, past and present, of British cinema more than Richard but like Wes Anderson he was hijacked at the DGAs and is sat there losing and is going to be frankly pissed off that he is not here tonight. When I talked to him about if such an event should happen he said that there was only one thing to do and that is to say thank you to Ellar Coltrane and Lorelei Linklater.  This film is built on the backs of these two young people and the unbelievable light that comes from them and their generosity, and their creativity and their playfulness and they went for this and there was nothing more fun in the world than over 12 years to watch these kids grow up, watch them pass through adolescence, watch their creativity explode.  We know it has not been easy.  The easy part was making the movie, the hard part was giving it to the world.  We are so proud, Patricia is, I am, and Richard is, we are so proud Ellar and Lorelei to walk through this with you, you guys are artists of the first order and thank you. Thank you thank you.
