One of the nation's most respected sports broadcasters during the 1960s and 70s, Johns began his career as a print journalist. He was ITV's voice at the 1966 World Cup, and thereafter became a regular match commentator on ATV's Star Soccer before leaving in 1982 to join HTV in Wales.
